Ex-F1 champion claims Carlos Sainz ‘playing his own game’ at Ferrari after being replaced for 2025

Following the massive announcement during the Formula 1 off-season that Lewis Hamilton will be replacing Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in 2025, there were a lot of doubts regarding the Spaniard’s will and motivation to drive with the team this year. But, instead of being demotivated, Sainz has had his best-ever start to a season in F1.

The 29-year-old has beaten teammate Charles Leclerc in the first four out of five rounds of the season. Moreover, Carlos Sainz also obtained a race victory in Australia after missing the previous race in Jeddah due to appendicitis surgery. This brilliant form from the Spaniard has forced the 1997 F1 World Champion, Jacques Villeneuve to praise him.

Carlos Sainz has responded very well after he was basically kicked out of Ferrari. We see it’s not there to be Leclerc’s second. He’s there to play his game and show the world what he can do. He’s put himself in the showcase big time.

The 53-year-old added how Carlos Sainz is the only driver who is winning races for Ferrari in F1. Moreover, how he has adapted well to every team he has been to. Sainz is yet to find a seat for 2025, but with his current form, a lot of teams are interested in acquiring his services.

Ever since his arrival in F1, Charles Leclerc has always been touted as one of the most naturally quick and gifted drivers on the grid. But, with all his speed, the Monegasuque has been beaten by Carlos Sainz at majority of the races this season.

Following the Spaniard’s impressive form, Jacques Villeneuve revealed the reason for it.

He’s definitely beating Leclerc. People are starting to realize he’s a serious aspirant. He’s very mature and dedicated, intelligent and works hard, which is making a difference. Talent alone is not enough.

The Ex-F1 driver added how Sainz has always proved himself at every team he’s been at. Moreover, with his raw pace as well as work ethic, he’s has beaten his talented teammate. But, to the surprise of many, Charles Leclerc beat the Spaniard recently in China, the Ferrari battle between them from now on will definitely be interesting. Next month’s Miami GP will present both Leclerc and Sainz with another opportunity to out perform the other.
