Lions’ Jared Goff, not Dak Prescott, reportedly could be the next QB to bag $50+ million contract
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The time has finally come, that both fans and Jared Goff were eagerly waiting for– the Detriot Lions are ready to solidify their starting quarterback in a lucrative extension after his remarkable performance last season.

Throughout the offseason, his contract extension has been a major subject of discussion even among his teammates. As per the report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on SportsCenter, the Lions’ star quarterback is next in line to land a lucrative long-term extension, potentially above $50 million with his franchise.

The Lions are on record that Jared Goff, signing him to an extension, is a 'high priority' so they are working on this. The feeling around the league from the people I've talked to is that Goff will be the next quarterback to score that megadeal. Jeremy Fowler reported

It does come a bit shocking that Goff is close to beating Dak Prescott in becoming one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Given, he was speculated to land a huge extension for leading the Dallas Cowboys to the playoffs with the NFC East title. However, his franchise has been quite hesitant in offering him the deal.

Moving on, Goff is already set to make $22.3 million in base salary as per his original deal and has earned a $5 million roster bonus. With this earning, the Lions’ quarterback is ranked 17th among the quarterbacks in the league.

Jared Goff could see earnings skyrocket with new contract

Considering the expected amount of his new contract, Goff might earn double his 2024 earnings every year. The top quarterbacks who signed a +$50 million deal last season are Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert. In that reference, Goff isn’t on their tier so his best bet for a similar contract would be Kirk Cousins, who signed a $45 million per year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

However, one leverage that Goff is said to have above Cousins is age and the fact that he is not coming from a season-ending injury. Instead, he had a remarkable season where he led his team to the NFC championship game.

Moreover, the Lions are all in to offer Goff a long-term deal as claimed by General Manager Brad Holmes , who labeled it as a high priority.
