Ravens trade star LB for former No. 2 overall pick in latest trade proposal

When teams don't pick up a player's fifth-year option, the feeling around the NFL is that player is available for a potential trade. That is why some believe the Ravens could trade their star linebacker for a former No. 2 overall pick.

In the latest trade proposal proposed by Bleacher Report, Baltimore sends LB Patrick Queen and a fourth-round pick to the Commanders for DE Chase Young. Both players had their fifth-year options declined.

Young, the 2020 No. 2 overall pick by Washington, hasn't been the same since his Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign. Over the past two seasons, he played in just 12 games and only has 1.5 sacks.

However, if the Ravens are still in the market for a pass-rusher, they might want to consider it. If Young can regain his rookie form, he will help Baltimore's defensive line become more formidable.

Although, that is a big if, especially when trading a player in Queen who just had a career-high 117 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions in 2022.

Some believe Queen's time as a Raven is nearing an end after the team drafted his potential replacement in LB Trenton Simpson with a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and signed fellow LB Roquan Smith to a five-year, $100 million deal, making a similar payday for Queen unlikely.

If that's the case, this trade could quickly become a very realistic scenario. But it would heavily rely upon how Simpson looks to start the season.
