Boston Bruins sign goaltender Michael DiPietro to one-year contract extension

The Canucks originally selected the 6′, 200-pound DiPietro in the third round (No. 64 overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Windsor, Ontario product spent the first four seasons of his junior career with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires before being traded to the Ottawa 67’s midway through the 2018-19 campaign.

DiPietro made his first NHL start with the Canucks on February 11, 2019, allowing seven goals on 24 shots in a lopsided loss to the San Jose Sharks. He appeared in two more games with the Canucks over the following three seasons before being traded to the Bruins.

Through his three career NHL games with the Canucks, DiPietro has put together an 0-2-0 record with a .771 save percentage. He’s 57-33-6 with five shutouts and a .909 save percentage in 101 career AHL games over parts of five seasons with the Providence Bruins, Abbotsford Canucks, and Utica Comets.

DiPietro and Linus Ullmark are the only two goaltenders under contract with the Bruins for next season. The team also has Jeremy Swayman and Brandon Bussi set to become restricted free agents this summer, plus pending Group 6 UFA Kyle Keyser.

The Bruins currently lead the entire National Hockey League with a 41-14-15 record and 97 points in 70 games this season. They’ve won three games in a row and are slated to return to action against the New York Rangers on Thursday.
