Barcelona will return to the top next season under Xavi Hernandez according to former captain Sergio Busquets.

Xavi and Busquets enjoyed a stellar playing career together at the heart of the Barcelona and Spain midfields for over a decade.

Busquets captained Xavi’s team to the La Liga title last season before opting to leave on a free transfer for MLS side Inter Miami.

The veteran star remains a respected voice for Barcelona fans, as the third highest appearance maker in the club’s history, with Xavi in second.

Busquets was asked about his view on Xavi’s decision to remain as Barcelona boss next season after originally opting to step down.

“I’m very happy about it, if it’s what he and the club want. I hope it comes with results, which is the most important thing”, as per reports from DAZN, via Mundo Deportivo.

“This year it wasn’t to be, but I have a lot of optimism for next season.”

Barcelona have four games left in the final weeks of the 2023/24 season and they face a battle to overhaul Girona in second place.

Girona currently have a one point lead over their Catalan neighbours with Barcelona only finishing outside of the top two on one occasion since 2008.
